The elk statue taken from the lawn of the Tryon Inn restaurant in Cherry Valley has been located, a member of an arts group said today.
"Everything is fine,” Melanie Loucks, a member of Cherry Valley Artworks, said.
A misunderstanding and lack of communication resulted in the removal of the statue from the local site without notification, she said, and “no one thought that there was a problem” with moving it.
State police at Richfield Springs were investigating the alleged theft.
The elk, made of salvaged metal, had been part of the Cherry Valley Artworks sculpture trail last year, and the piece had remained locally with permission of the artist, Wendy Klemperer of Brooklyn and Keene, N.H.
The elk, located in Utica, will be returned to Cherry Valley within days, according to Loucks, who said she didn't know the individuals who took the statue.
