---- — The Greater Roxbury Learning Initiative Corp. has been awarded a $5,000 O’Connor Grant that will allow students to gain hands-on experience in video production.
The grant will cover the costs of acquiring editing software and a small HD video camera that will be accessible to the students involved in the organization’s programs. It also will fund a mentorship program led by Jessica Vecchione of Vecc Videography in Hamden.
The mentorship program will allow a small group of students to plan, shoot and edit a five- to seven-minute video project focusing on the news media in Delaware County.
The video created by the mentorship program will be distributed on social media and through the news outlets featured in it. Video links will be forwarded to local government officials and other community members so they can assess the students’ progress.
The goal is to provide young people with preparation to compete effectively for college and for careers in the growing video field.
The award is a matching-funds grant, so the organization is seeking additional donations. They can be sent to PO Box 263, Roxbury, NY 12474.
