Area hotelier appointed to statewide board

A Cooperstown innkeeper will have a chance to help out his industry statewide thanks to his recently announced appointment to the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association’s board of directors.

Marc Kingsley, 51, has owned and operated the Inn at Cooperstown with his wife for almost 12 years. The restored historic hotel is in the bed & breakfast style, he said.

“I was very surprised,” and honored to be chosen, Kingsley said. He was a past president of the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce and a past board member of the Otsego Chamber of Commerce, but this is his first statewide position.

Kingsley said he will find out more about what the new position entails when he attends his first board meeting in March, and that his focus will be on bed & breakfast-style inns. He has worked with such establishments in the area, so he knows the issues, he said, including unemployment insurance and workmen’s compensation.

“I think I can bring some creative ideas,” he said.

The Tourism Association is the oldest state lodging association in the United States, according to its website.

“We look forward to Mr. Kingsley joining the board of our association,” said Jan Marie Chesterton, the group’s president. “We are very fortunate to have someone with his background and passion for the industry.”
