---- — Hartwick College is featured in the 2014 edition of The Fiske Guide to Colleges as one of the country’s best and most interesting colleges, a media release from the Oneonta school said.
The guide, which is referred to as “the best college guide you can buy” by USA Today, includes about 300 colleges and universities from among more than 7,000 higher education institutions across the country. The schools were chosen based on areas such as academics, social life, financial aid, campus setting, extracurricular activities and more, the release said.
Hartwick is a private liberal arts and sciences college of 1,500 students.
“Hartwick is known for its cozy atmosphere and ability to take good care of students,” the 2014 Fiske Guide said. “Student/faculty collaborations are the norm, as is the emphasis on learning through real-world experiences, from working in a Jamaican hospital to interning with the New York Mets.”
Hartwick’s three-year degree program also is discussed as a benefit.
“The Fiske Guide considers many facets of the overall college experience,” David Conway, vice president for enrollment management and marketing, said in the release.
The guide is one of the most reliable and prestigious guides for college-bound students and their parents, Conway said, and Hartwick’s inclusion “reaffirms the tremendous benefits of our brand of personalized, hands-on education focused on student success.”
The Fiske Guide, designed to give a selective, subjective and systematic look at colleges and universities in the U.S., Canada and Great Britain, seeks “to give readers the real personality of the institutions,” the release said, and research is accompanied by testimonials from students.
The guide, published for 30 years, is compiled by former New York Times education editor Edward B. Fiske.
