Norwich farmers' market to open year-round

Getting farm-fresh food year-round in Chenango County just got easier.

Vital Vittles Inc., a nonprofit corporation focused on local food issues, announced that the public market in Norwich will now have local food and other goods year-round. The Chenango County Farmers’ Market offers a summer market now from June through October. The market has been in existence for more than 75 years and is one of the oldest farmers’ markets in the state, according to a media release from Vital Vittles. 

The new winter market, called the Norwich Farmers’ Market, will run from November to May starting this fall. It joins Oneonta, which hosts a year-round farmers’ market, as one of the few locations in the region to do so. 

The Norwich Farmers’ Market will continue in East Side Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or later each Wednesday as long as weather is fair. The indoor location will be the Follett Hall Atrium of SUNY Morrisville’s Norwich campus at 20 Conkey Ave. The market will move back outdoors when weather permits in the spring. According to the release, the vendors participating in the farmers’ markets have a variety of local products to offer, including locally grown meats, including chicken, lamb, goat, pork, beef and goose; farm-fresh eggs; indigenous produce (summer and winter crops); fresh baked goods; preserves; wood crafts; household crafts; and trees and shrubs.
