---- — Chain-wide honors went to a Richfield Spring Kinney Drugs pharmacist Wednesday — for the second year in a row.
After the votes of Kinney Drugs customers in New York and Vermont were counted, the stores supervising pharmacist, James Murphy, won the company’s pharmacist of the year award, according to a media release. The company operates 98 retail stores in that region.
“It’s very nice to be selected by the customers,” Murphy, 52, a resident of Herkimer said. “I always try to help the customer in anyway I can.”
He added, “This award would not be possible without the efforts of my pharmacy team and the support of our corporate group throughout the year. Most importantly, I would like to thank our customers and the local community for supporting our store, making it possible to continue our mission of providing the best in pharmacy services.”
Murphy is a 26-year veteran with the company, joining Kinney Drugs shortly after he graduated from St. John’s University in New York City in 1986. He worked at both the St. Johnsville, and Ilion locations before transferring to the Richfield Springs store, where he currently works as a supervising pharmacist.
The program was designed to recognize all Kinney pharmacists for their contributions to health care and their commitment to patient care and services, according to a media release.
Murphy received a plaque honoring the achievement from Bridget-Ann Hart, R.Ph, president of Kinney Healthcare Services, and several members of the executive committee at a luncheon held in his honor. He also received a gift of $1,000 to donate to his charity of choice. He split the funds between the Richfield Springs Food Bank and the Richfield Springs Central School Foundation because of the important contributions that each organization makes to the community.
“We are proud to again recognize Jim’s outstanding contributions to community health,” Hart said in the release. “His seamless combination of compassion and expertise allows Jim to provide exceptional service to his loyal patients, making him a model of Kinney Drugs’ commitment to superior health care services.”
