Otsego Chamber plans big week

---- — The Otsego County Chamber will be celebrating itself all week.

Among the events scheduled is a cash mob held in collaboration with the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce’s Shop Local Campaign.

The event will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., starting on the front steps of City Hall in Oneonta. Participants agree to spend at least $10 at the Shops at Ford and Main.

The events will continue Friday program titled Transform Your Business Anniversary Into a Growth Strategy, led by Pauline Bartel of Bartel Communications on Friday at the Holiday Inn in Oneonta.

The program will begin with networking from 8:30 to 9 a.m., followed by Bartel’s presentation from 9 to 10 a.m. and a “meet Pauline” period from 10 to 10:30 a.m.

The week will culminate Friday with the chamber’s annual dinner in the Hunt Union Ballroom at SUNY Oneonta at which At Home Care and Hugh Henderson will be honored as Business of the Year and Distinguished Citizen of the Year, respectively.

A reception will begin at 5:45 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:45 p.m.

Energy workshops

A series of workshops and presentations about energy efficiency is being held throughout Otsego County under the auspices the county Planning Department, Opportunities for Otsego Energy Services and Sustainable Otsego.

Homeowners, small businesses, and nonprofits can learn about energy efficiency and get a thorough energy assessment of their home or office at no cost.

In addition, local contractors who are accredited through the Building Performance Institute will demonstrate the techniques they use to assess a building’s energy usage, and experts will be on hand to guide participants through the process of applying for a free assessment.

The next workshop will be held at the Cherry Valley Community Center, 2 Genesee St. in Cherry Valley, from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Additional workshops are planned for Morris and Edmeston.

Students go pro

Photography students at Otsego Area Occupational Center of the Otsego Northern Catskill BOCES have joined the ranks of professional photographers by forming Forever Photos.

In operation since October, Forever Photos has completed several jobs, including portrait photos for all the students at Otsego Northern Catskill BOCES, the Cooperstown varsity girl’s volleyball team and Otego Optical.

The students work with professional studio and equipment and print on archival, high-quality photo paper.

NBT branch manager honored

Mary Earl, branch manager for the NBT Bank in Cherry Valley was among six managers named Branch Manager of the Year by the bank.

Earl was recognized as top performer for overall achievement and performance in the areas of sales and service, leadership, community involvement and operational integrity during 2012, according to the bank, which has 135 branches.
