Otsego Chamber plans women's financial seminar

---- — Financial adviser Sarah Manchester of Edward Jones will present a seminar titled, “A Woman’s Guide to Money Matters” on Tuesday at Christopher’s Restaurant.

During the noontime seminar, which is being sponsored by the Otsego County Chamber of Commerce, Manchester will discuss what women can do now to prepare for retirement, their options to pay for a child’s or grandchild’s education, and developing a strategy to help achieve financial goals.

Edward Jones provides financial services for individual investors and has been named for 14 consecutive years by Fortune magazine as one of the country’s best employers, ranking No. 8 overall in its most recent survey.

Lunch will be served at noon with homemade Lasagna at Christopher’s Restaurant. The cost per person is $20.

New Schoharie tourism website

The Schoharie County Planning and Development Department has set up a tourism website, inviting visitors to find “Something Unexpected.”

The website,, was created by ABC Creative Group of Syracuse. It directs tourists to numerous destinations in the county.

“Since most travelers do not pay attention to what county they’re in, we focused more on the areas within Schoharie that may be more familiar to travelers, said Travis Bort, ABC’s owner and creative director. “We concentrated on the quaint towns and villages in each area of the county.”

Users can use an interactive map discover unique places within the county and use a complete

listing to find accommodations, activities and dining. The site is optimized for mobile devices.

Market to reopen

The Mount Wellington Market is reopening for the season today, and owners Will and Emily Gibson are inviting the community in to “eat, shop and relax” with free coffee all day.

Among the market’s offerings are its own doughnut breakfast sandwich, takeout lunches or dinners; a variety of New York state beers and hot dogs, snacks and other convenience items in the grocery section.

The market also offers free Wi-Fi inside, outside on the new patio and on Adirondack chairs on the lawn.

Mount Wellington Market is at 7471 State Route 80, a half-mile north of the Glimmerglass Opera complex. It is open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sundays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Monday thriough Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. New this year, customers will have the added option of paying with Square Wallet, in addition to traditional forms of payment.

Commerce Chenango annual luncheon

Commerce Chenango held its 12th-annual Membership Appreciation Luncheon on Wednesday at the newly reopened Fred’s Inn in Norwich.

This year’s event was sponsored by Preferred Mutual Insurance Co. and Integrys and honored Dan Grady as the Chamber Champion, George Carnrike for Extraordinary Service and the Chenango Valley Home as Non-Profit of the Year. New this year, Commerce Chenango awarded the Chamber 5K Community Scholarship to graduating seniors Tambria Schroeder and Kathleen Callahan.
