Tourism to be focus of round-table meeting

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association and the Catskill Association for Tourism Services invite local tourism businesses to the 2014 Legislative Roundtable at Copper Tree at Hunter Mountain from 5:30 to 7 p.m. March 20.

“This is an excellent chance for our tourism business community to communicate issues and concerns with our state officials that impact the tourism industry as well as meet and network with fellow business owners from the region,” Mary Beth Silano, executive director for the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, said in a media release.

Some discussion topics include the economic impact of casino gambling on all counties in the Catskill region, organizers said, as well as the CATS 2014 marketing plan. Round-table attendees also may let officials about business obstacles and success stories, organizers said.

Jim Thomson, tourism director for the Chamber and vice president of vice president of Catskill Association for Tourism Services, said tourism in the Catskills is “indeed big business.’’ In 2012, total visitor spending for the Catskill region exceeded $1.07 billion, he said in the release, and the area is just behind the Adirondack region in total visitor spending.

“This round-table is an excellent opportunity to keep informed on the issues that will help push us further up the ladder,” Thomson said.

To register for the free event, visit, organizers said.
