---- — The Otsego County Tourism Program is inviting representatives of the local tourism and hospitality industry to gather for a county-wide meeting on Wednesday. The meeting will run from 10 a.m. to noon at the Louis C. Jones Center on the grounds of The Farmers’ Museum at 5775 State Highway 80 in Cooperstown.
The tourism privatization Steering Committee, led by James Miles, general manager of the Otesaga Resort Hotel, and Ken Meifert, Vice President of Sponsorship and Development at the National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum, will review the process of moving the tourism program from county government to a not-for-profit organization governed by a board of directors of tourism professionals.
Representatives from AdWorkshop, the tourism program’s agency of record, will review the results of the 2013 campaign, which included TV, print, social marketing, website enhancements and more.
The meeting is open to all Otsego County tourism industry members, but RSVP is requested by contacting Tourism Specialist Amy Lieberman at firstname.lastname@example.org or 643-0059, ext. 2.
Panera Bread opening near
The Panera Bread restaurant in Oneonta is preparing to open, manager Conrad Picou said Friday. The restaurant will serve bakery items, soups and sandwiches from a standalone location on the Southside Mall property.
Picou said that a grand opening is planned for some time in October, but no date has yet been set; a “soft opening” is expected before the end of the month, but Picou did not give a specific date when the restaurant would be open to the public. The Panera Bread website lists job openings for bakery, sales, catering and management positions in Oneonta.
ACCO names new manager
Jeff Almasian has been named general manager of the ACCO Brands facility in Sidney, according to a media release from the company.
Almasian comes to Sidney from a position as vice president of Canadian operations in Brampton, Ontario. He has been with the company since 1983 leading operational improvements in manufacturing, distribution, customer service and supply chain management.
Formerly the MeadWestvaco plant, the ACCO Brands Sidney site produces many paper-based office products, including calendars, planning products and notebooks.
“The journey in Sidney has just begun, and I have high expectations,” Almasian said. “We know that we need to make significant improvements to retain and win business as a team, by driving out waste and reducing costs, while improving flexibility. By doing so, we can create a safe, profitable, stable and sustainable workplace for our employees for years to come.”
Local bank named ‘5-Star Superior Bank’
Delaware National Bank of Delhi recently received a rating of “5-Star Superior” from Bauerfinancial of Coral Gables, Fla.
According to a media release, Bauerfinancial has been analyzing and rating the nation’s financial institutions since 1983 and the Delaware National Bank of Delhi has earned this highest 5-Star rating for the most recent 74 quarters. The rating, based on March 31, 2013, financial data, indicates that the Delaware National Bank of Delhi is one of the strongest banks in the nation.
Established in 1839, the Delaware National Bank of Delhi has branch offices are conveniently located in Delhi, Hobart, Margaretville and Davenport and is a member of the FDIC and an Equal Housing Lender.
Sales tax figures suggest economic growth
Tax revenues through August have exceeded expectations, according to a report issued by the state Comptroller’s office on Friday.
“We’ve seen robust collections in April followed by continuing strength in sales tax receipts, and nearly $550 million in unexpected miscellaneous revenues,” Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said in the release.
