A conference on municipal, business and economic issues will be presented in Oneonta on Tuesday, May 6.
The meeting on local government efficiency is coordinated by the Greater Oneonta Economic Development Council and Citizen Voices, and is sponsored by the Bank of Cooperstown. The afternoon program will be in the Foothills Performing Arts and Civic Center on Market Street in Oneonta.
Organizers said two sessions are planned, as outlined below:
• Part I from 1 to 3 p.m.: The state Department of State will give a presentation on local government efficiency grant funding and technical support offered to assist officials develop opportunities. Presenters will be Dierdre Scozzafava, deputy secretary of state for local government, and Robert Roeckle, land use specialist.
• Part II from 3 to 4 p.m.: Ann Thane, Mayor, city of Amsterdam, and Carolyn Lewis, economic development coordinator at the State University College at Oneonta, will highlight the Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Development Council’s efforts, present 2014 funding priorities and review this year’s state Consolidated Funding Application process. Both presenters are members of the MVREDC Executive Committee.

LOCAL EQUIPMENT SUPPLIER OPENS
Chemung Supply Corp. has opened a showroom and offices in South New Berlin to better serve municipalities, contractors and construction companies in the region, said Todd Steadman, facilities manager.
The supplier of highway construction and maintenance equipment has been in business more than 80 years, Steadman said.
President Marc Stemerman said in a media release that the company “will strive to work closely with local municipalities to achieve the levels of service expected from those that maintain our local communities and roads.”
Chemung Supply sells a range of products from corrugated steel pipe and box culverts to bridge decking and signs and snow plow blades.
