Free energy assessments
Homeowners have an opportunity to increase the energy efficiency of their houses and save money on their utility bills under a government program that offers free energy assessments.
The Home Performance with Energy Star Program offers free energy assessments of homes by accredited contractors. It also helps homeowners through the process of financing their home improvements with grants of $5,000 to $10,000, low-interest loans, and an on-bill repayment program, which allows customers to pay for the financing of improvements directly on their energy bills.
The assessments take three to four hours to complete and will identify efficiency problem areas in a home.
