Edward Jones honored
Financial services firm Edward Jones is ranked No. 8 on Fortune magazine’s 100 Best Companies to Work For 2013, the company’s 14th appearance on the prestigious list, according to Sarah Manchester, an Edward Jones financial adviser based in Oneonta.
Of those 14 appearances on the Fortune list are 10 top-10 finishes and No. 1 rankings in 2002 and 2003, Manchester said.
The firm has 4,630 positions available throughout the country, mostly for financial advisers and branch office administrators. Each Edward Jones branch office includes one financial adviser and one branch office administrator who work one-on-one with clients in the communities where those clients live.
The Oneonta office is at 762 State Route 28, Suite 2, Oneonta, NY 13820
Female defense contractors get help
Small businesses owned by women will have greater access to federal contracting opportunities as a result of changes included in the National Defense Authorization Act of 2013 to the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Women-Owned Small Business Federal Contract Program.
“Today, women own 30 percent of all small businesses, up from just 5 percent 40 years ago,” SBA Administrator Karen Mills said.
The Defense law removes the “anticipated award price of the contract” thresholds for female-owned small businesses and economically disadvantaged female-owned small businesses to allow them greater access to federal contracting opportunities without limitations to the size of the contract.
Before the new law, the anticipated award price of the contract for female-owned and economically disadvantaged female-owned small businesses could not exceed $6.5 million for manufacturing contracts and $4 million for all other contracts.
