---- — Sportsfield Specialties Inc. of Delhi, a leading manufacturer of sports competition equipment, has been awarded a five-year contract to engage in national sales of “loose and installed athletic equipment” by the Keystone Purchasing Network, a cooperative purchasing program based in Milton, Pa.

The contract is available to Keystone members nationwide in states where cooperative purchasing is allowed by law. It gives Sportsfield product category exclusivity and is expected to increase sales opportunities by enabling Ketstone members, such as schools, government agencies, and non-profit organizations, to have no-bid access to all Sportsfield products, along with those of its subsidiaries Sports Specialties LLC and Promats Athletics.

“We are delighted to have been awarded this contract by KPN and are excited about offering our full line of equipment to a broad new market,” said Wayne Oliver, President of SSI. “Our success is new construction has generated requests by end users for many of our innovative, state-of—the-art products. Now, as a KPN vendor, we can meet those requests while also attracting new business.”

Energy-efficient housing on the rise

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority has reported that the number of New York Energy Star-certified homes increased by 10 percent in 2012 from 2011, despite housing starts nationwide remaining at historically low levels.

A total of 2,262 Energy Star-certified homes homes were constructed in the state last year, compared with 2,049 in 2011. According to the U.S. Census, construction starts in 2012 were at one of their lowest levels since 1959, when the Census began reporting housing starts.

NYSERDA officials attribute the increase in New York ENERGY STAR Certified Homes to changing market trends and continued program expansion from primarily single-family homes to allow other low-rise residential properties, including affordable housing, duplexes, townhomes and low-rise multifamily buildings.

Restaurant-theater partnerships

The Open Eye Theater has renewed a promotion with the Binnekill Square Restaurant, Inn Between Steak and Seafood, and Hanah Resort and Country Club

Patrons of those restaurants can obtain vouchers for premium reserved seats at the theater. The theater’s current offering, the world premiere of the musical play “Irving Berlin’s America,” opened Thursday and will run for eight performances. The program also applies to brunch before Sunday matinees or dinner afterward.

The restaurants will make the arrangements, or patrons can call the Open Eye Theater at (845) 586-1660, specifying their restaurant of choice. The theater will also present “Mysterious Moments” of magic, featuring Art Martello in July, “Too Many Frogs” following the summer Youth Theater Workshop in August, a collage of short plays, poems and monologues titled “Summer Shortcuts III” in August and a holiday show to be announced.

New York wine promotion

The Last Store on Main Street, a statewide coalition of wine retailers, wineries, small business advocates, unions and distributors, will conduct a statewide promotion of New York State wines, this year starting June 1 and running through Labor Day. This is the fifth consecutive year the coalition has run the promotion.

Retailers statewide will take part in the promotion by displaying Beat the Heat posters in their stores, offering special deals on Empire State wines and conducting in-store tastings to showcase New York wines.

“For years, New York wineries have been consistently producing some of the best wines in the world,” said Jeff Saunders, the coalition founder and President of the Retailers Alliance. “But New Yorkers are skeptical by nature and generally look elsewhere when they make their wine selections. We, at Last Store on Main Street, have dedicated ourselves to spreading the word about the exceptional wines made right here in New York.”
