Said manager Michael Popek, in comments by email, “We hope to have a more formal grand opening to really announce our presence, which will likely be at the end of September.”
Popek also said that they were planning some events around the Christmas rush, which will likely include a sale, as well as food and entertainment.
Popek has been a part of the book-selling business since his parents entered into it in 1985.
Popek also said that that the store’s regular customers have stuck with them through the move.
“Even before we were fully set up, I had more than a few customers pop their heads in to check up on us.”
As for their reception in Otego, he said that it has been good.
“Everyone has been pleased with the shop and are happy to have a business presence on Main Street,” he said. “We hope that we start a trend and look forward to seeing more shops open up beside us.”
Popek Books sells used and rare books. It is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday; and weekends by chance.
