---- — Opportunities are popping up to “shop local” and visit area businesses that offer Christmas and holiday-oriented activities as well as merchandise.
Shoppers will find an indoor holiday market in Stamford on Thursday. The pop-up farmers’ market will be in the Frank W. Cyr Center at 159 W. Main St. in the village. The Greater Stamford Area Chamber of Commerce is presenting the indoor market from 2:30 to 6 p.m.
More than 40 vendors are expected, with products including farm-fresh eggs and meat, maple syrup products, baked goods, local wine and spirits, hand-made gifts, decorations, fresh flowers and more, organizers said.
The Hobart Book Village’s “Book Nook” will be a special feature, organizers said, and the Book Village of the Catskills will be host to authors who will sign copies of their books. Also, the Ate.O.Ate Food Truck will sell take-out food.
Some vendors will take orders to be picked up at the market. The Jefferson Boy Scouts will provide “elves” to help shoppers take purchases to their vehicles, organizers said, and the “snow date” for the market will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21.
In Delhi, Maple Shade Farm will offer “Christmas on the Farm” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 14 and 15.
Santa will arrive at 1 p.m. Saturday, the farm’s website said, and garland making will be at 1 p.m. Sunday and ornament making at 2 p.m. Sunday. Sledding will be offered, weather permitting, among other activities.
Maple Shade Farm, which is the site of the Taste of the Catskills Festival and other events, is at 2066 County Highway 18. For more information, call 746-8866.
Pure Catskills also has been promoting local products, including eight holiday bakers, five holiday caterers and four farm-to-table restaurants, among many other area businesses in a seasonal directory.
The “Fresh From the Catskills Holiday Gift Guide 2013” lists farmers, crafters and other producers for holiday events purchases and gift shopping. The online director is available at www.buypurecatskills.com/pdfs/CATSKILLS-GIFT-GUIDE-2013.pdf
