Obama forcing us to give 'til it hurts|

The Daily Star

---- — Recently, a friend of mine sent me an email, and it read, “Putting things in perspective: December 7, 1941 to May 8, 1945 is 3 years, 5 months, 1 day, and March 21, 2010 (Obamacare passage) to October 1, 2013 (website launch) is 3 years, 6 months, 10 days.

“What this means is that in the time we were attacked at Pearl Harbor to the day Germany surrendered is not enough time for this progressive federal government to build a working healthcare webpage.

“The time required for FDR to mobilize millions, build thousands of tanks, planes, and jeeps, hundreds of subs, cruisers, and destroyers, millions of torpedoes, guns, and bombs, invade Italy, execute D-Day, win the Battle of the Bulge, develop the Manhattan Project, while fighting the Japanese in the Pacific, is not enough time for President Obama to build a working Obamacare website.”

Say it isn’t so, but these masterminds of mayhem, the genetic splicing of Laurel and Hardy, Homer Simpson, and the Three Stooges, are poised to control our healthcare, a sixth of the US economy.

However, could something more sinister be lurking? Obamacare has pinned its hopes on young, healthy people signing up for coverage. Even with something as unique as a working website, that’s not going to happen. Most young folks are busy being young!

As Obamacare falters, and as tens of million of employer-sponsored policies are now expected to be canceled, the only “choice” will be massive government spending and single-payer, which is what this progressive administration had in mind all along.

According to the Huffington Post, “Single-payer advocates favor scrapping private health insurance, and enrolling everyone in a program akin to Medicare with a comprehensive set of benefits that is financed through taxation, one whose primary focus is providing medical care, not earning profits.”

There’s that evil word, “profit.” To President Obama and his leftist, socialist administration, that’s a bad thing, but those of us in the real world know that the pursuit of profit produces excellence. Competition in business ensures that the best products and the best services survive, and the inferior fail.

Capitalism works, and it’s the only system that does, but it doesn’t fit into President Obama’s “redistribution of wealth” agenda, which is really what his whole administration has been about.

When government takes our money and spends it on public benefits like the highway system or the military, that is what the Constitution had in mind, but when our money is taken and given to individual citizens for reasons like health insurance subsidies, food stamps, welfare, subsidized housing, etc. ... that’s socialism and redistribution. There is an immense difference.

Take, for example, something as seemingly virtuous as forcing private insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions. If that’s not taking from the rich and giving to the poor, I’ll kiss Nancy Pelosi.

Imagine running into a deer and then going into your local Geico insurance office, with which you’ve never done business, and demanding that they pay to have your car repaired! Or, why buy healthcare in advance, at all? Buy it after you fall down the stairs, because now, your broken leg a pre-existing condition.

Don’t forget President Obama’s first attempt at “wealth redistribution,” the stimulus package that came in at almost $1 trillion. It worked so well on those “shovel ready” projects that unemployment was above 8 percent for years and in truth, still is, but don’t be fooled, it wasn’t about jobs at all. It was about sharing the wealth.

President Obama’s answer for jobs was no jobs at all. It was to extend unemployment insurance for 99 weeks. I wonder how many billions of dollars went from those who were working to those who were not.

The food stamps bonanza under President Obama is another example. From 2008 to 2012, the number of recipients went from 28 million to 46 million, and the annual payout increased from $34.6 billion to $74.6 billion. Quite an achievement!

Remember when he told Joe the plumber before the 2008 election, “I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody?”

No, Mr. President, it is not. You may be Robin Hood on steroids, but you’re not a divine being who can search people’s souls and tell who is deserving and needy. To blindly give to those who have not earned it, is wrong, and it creates a class of dependents who look to others for their well being, instead of using their own God-given skills and ambition to provide for themselves and their families.

Nor, are you a king. This country is not yours to mold or fashion into a socialist experiment that has nowhere on Earth succeeded.

Was it Margaret Thatcher who said, “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money?”
