The Daily Star
---- — How about that “shovel-ready” job called the Democratic National Convention? With all the homage paid to President Barack Obama, one can only imagine the exhilaration and ecstasy, if he had been a successful president.
On Tuesday night, we learned that the Democratic Party has been reducing the number of times “God” was mentioned in their party platform. Finally in 2012, God is not mentioned at all. Why? What is the problem? Have they got something against “God?”
Another telling omission was the removal of the statement claiming Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Why? What is the problem? Have they got something against Israel, too?
Next, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel praised President Obama for his hard work tackling the worst economic meltdown since the fall of Rome!
He told of how our President reads 10 letters nightly from average, everyday Americans. What he didn’t tell you was that nine out of 10 of those letters are mortgage foreclosures and the 10th one is titled, “Congratulations, you may have already won ... ”
Then, we heard a great speech by the first lady, Michelle Obama. It was very well-delivered but full of the predictable stuff like their hard work, their humble beginnings and their burdensome student loan payments.
Wednesday night was a hoot! Because of the firestorm over removing “God” and Jerusalem from the platform, President Obama, fearing the sucking sound of falling polls, ordered them reinstated.
Los Angeles Mayor and Convention Chairman Antonio Villaraigosa took a voice vote to amend the platform and reinstate “God” and Jerusalem. The “Nays” won. He tried a second time and the “Nays” won again.
Looking like “one hamburger short of a Happy Meal,” he called for another voice vote, and the “Nays” won a third time. Amid cat-calls and boos, he proclaimed “God” and Jerusalem reinstated. Just think about this fiasco. Why were these entities omitted in the first place? Why were “God” and Jerusalem voted down three more times?
Next, Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown University contraceptive queen, told of the impending doom women will face at the hands of Romney-Ryan. She is an expert because she testified about Georgetown University, a Catholic school, not covering contraceptives in its healthcare program.
Ms. Fluke claims that an annual cost of $3,000 for contraceptives is a big financial burden on fellow female students, and should be paid by the university’s health care plan.
Three thousand dollars a year on birth control! Where were these girls when I was in college? They were not making speeches at the Democratic National Convention. Think about that, too!
Finally, Bill Clinton gave a rousing endorsement of President Obama. He spoke quite highly of a man he can’t stand.
Remember President Clinton, aka Old Bubba? Compared to President Obama, he was that conservative, small-government good-old-boy who was president from 1992-2000.
Clinton also encouraged compromise and cooperation in Washington. Yes, sir! We have already compromised ourselves to a $16 trillion debt and so much government intrusion that our Founding Fathers are spinning in their graves.
At the Grand Finale on Thursday night, we were first thrilled by VP Joe Biden’s “I love you, man!” speech to President Obama. It was a “Brokeback Mountain” moment! Good heavens, you’d think he was talking about a cross between George Washington and John Wayne.
Finally, President Obama ascended to the stage and began the predictable “we need more time” sales pitch. After all, he didn’t realize “how big the problem was.” He was faced with the “greatest economic disaster since the Great Depression.” No one could fix it “in only four years.”
I’ve never seen a president complain so much about what he”inherited.” Did President Bush blame President Clinton for the weakened military and lax international intelligence that led to 911? No, he rallied the American people, and successfully defended our nation for the balance of his term. He didn’t carp and complain!
Our “Complainer in Chief” Obama went on to promise the same undelivered promises from his 2008 acceptance speech. Should we believe him again? I would feel better if progress had been made, but it hasn’t been! A trillion spent on a failed stimulus package, more folks on food stamps, unemployment at 8-9 percent, and a third of our population on some form of government assistance, does not make a good job resume.
Interestingly, he didn’t mention Obamacare or his stimulus package spending. Why? Weren’t they great things for which we should all be thankful? By the way, President Clinton, where was the “compromise and cooperation” when it came to these bills?
I think two great Americans said it best. Albert Einstein defined insanity as “Doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results.” Clint Eastwood put it, “When somebody does not do the job, you got to let them go.”
