Remember the old movie, “Mr. Mom,” starring Michael Keaton? It’s about a father who lost his job, and his wife must now work to support the family. He takes over the care of the house, yard, meals and their young children.
Our hero finds this a daunting task. Diapers, midnight feedings, grease fires in the kitchen, grocery shopping, laundry and taking the kids to school overwhelm him.
Things go “south” in a hurry, and to compound his problems even more, his wife proves to be very successful in her new job. Thus leaving “Mr. Mom” to sink or swim with no relief in sight.
Like Arnold Schwarzenegger would say, “I’ll be back.” More on this novice in a minute; let’s talk about another. I have never been an Obama supporter, but every president deserves a chance, and I was hoping he would bring something fresh to the national scene. Politicians and pundits call this the “Honeymoon Period.”
As in the movie, things went “south” in a hurry. ABC News estimates that $160 million to $170 million was spent on Obama’s inauguration. These things always cost a ton of money, and not all of it is taxpayer-funded, but facing “the greatest economic disaster since the Great Depression,” a $160 million party seemed a bit much!
This was followed by an almost trillion-dollar stimulus spending package, the government and union takeover of GM, the forced feeding of Obamacare, and trillion-dollar deficits ad infinitum. We are spending $4 billion a day more than we are taking in, and bankruptcies are at an all-time high.
Dozens of czars were appointed, billions wasted on failed “green energy” companies, 923 executive orders were issued, and gas and oil drilling permits on federal lands were cut by at least one-third. The coal industry was crippled by regulation, the Keystone pipeline was stopped, and guess what? A gallon of gas is now more than $4.
The U.S. had the first credit downgrade in history, our national debt is more than $16 trillion, and 100 million people are now getting food stamps, welfare, or some other form of government subsidy. The Federal Reserve is printing 40 billion new dollars each month, and before long, inflation and devaluation of our currency will hit.
The “official” unemployment rate is at 7.8 percent, and Obama calls that progress, but with 23 million workers jobless, the true rate including those who have stopped looking for work is at a shocking 11 percent.
On foreign affairs, the situation is no better. After repeated requests for more security, our Libyan ambassador and three other Americans, left defenseless, were murdered and our embassy destroyed in a Sept. 11 terrorist attack. It took weeks for the Obama administration to figure out what happened.
The Middle East is an erupting powder keg; Iran is four years closer to an atomic bomb; and our Israeli allies are less secure.
At home, Americans have been murdered by the “Fast and Furious” gun debacle. Obama has claimed “Executive Privilege” to suppress the facts, while Attorney General Eric Holder has set an all-time low for his office.
Furthermore, Arizona was sued by the federal government for trying to enforce immigration laws and protect its citizens from crime. At the same time, some of our national parks have been closed to Americans because of drug-related violence spilling across the Mexican border.
The Obama administration has not controlled the border, nor has it provided Americans with protection even inside the U.S., and it refuses to let the states do it. This is appalling!
Because of Obama’s incessant promotion of class warfare, Americans have been pitted against Americans. We are being conditioned to hate and distrust those who have more.
Does it come as a surprise that so many Americans feel anxiety over another four years of this? Was there ever a time when the re-election of a president was so dreaded?
He has had four years! He has had four years, and it’s getting worse. We’re going the wrong way! Can we stand another $6 trillion in debt, another credit downgrade, millions more on the government dole, and more Americans living in poverty?
He has had four years! We can do better, and we deserve better!
Oh, back to our Mr. Mom! As he brings his kids to school and ponders the magnitude of his job and his inability to handle it, he pulls into the school, going the wrong way in a one-way. All the people scream in unison, “You’re going the wrong way!”
On Nov. 6, we, too, will change direction!
