Cuomo goes too far with gun control

Gov. Cuomo, what have you done? Without the usual three-day debate, a period of input from constituents, you have rammed down the throats of New York’s gun owners the most stringent gun-control package in the United States. If this law is so “great” and of such benefit, why was it passed so quickly in the dark of night?

Is it because you care so much about our children? Do you really care more than we? Or are we gun owners really that ignorant and inconsequential that our opinions and feelings can so easily be swept aside? From here, it looks like the only person Andrew Cuomo cares about is Andrew Cuomo.

Yes, Gov. Cuomo, as you spoke in the state Capitol, waving your arms and screaming like carnival barker, you reminded me of the 1930s European dictator, Benito Mussolini. At best, it looks to me like Chicago-style politics have taken root in the one-time Empire State. I thought we were better than that.

You had given your word to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Have you ever read it? In the state of New York, you have abridged the “right of the people to keep and bear arms.” What other “right” do we have to jump through such hoops to exercise?

In Cuomo’s New York, you must register your “assault rifle” with the state. It will determine what an “assault rifle” is. You may be surprised. That old Ruger 10/22 with a pistol grip may now be one! Your grandfather’s M1 Carbine, which defended this nation in World War II, certainly is. Your Mini 14, your Hi-Point 9mm Carbine and your shotgun with a pistol grip may qualify. Failure to comply and you become a criminal.

In Cuomo’s New York, you can not sell your old shotgun to your cousin or your neighbor of 30 years. Don’t even think about giving your nephew Grandpa’s old lever gun. You now must go through the national background check and get the government’s permission. Failure to comply and you become a criminal.
