Otsego-Delaware Job Service Employer Committee and The Otsego County Chamber will present the 2008 Labor Law Review, featuring Susan Wood from the state Division of Labor Standards and James Jordan from the U.S. Department of Labor.
The seminar will be held Thursday, Jan. 31, at the Holiday Inn in Oneonta. Sign-in and breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the seminar will run from 9 to 11:30 a.m. For reservations, call 432-4800, ext. 103.
Senior Investigator Wood will discuss state labor laws concerning minimum wage, hours of work, child labor, payment of wages and wage supplements, industrial homework and farm labor. Wood has been an investigator for nine years and a senior labor standards investigator since 2006. She has 22 years of service with state government. She is responsible for enforcement of all sections of the state labor law, with the exception of public work, which is handled through a separate bureau.
Jordan is an investigator with the U.S. Wage and Hour Division, which is responsible for administering and enforcing some of our nation's most comprehensive labor laws, presenters said. He will provide an overview of minimum wage, overtime and child labor provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act; the Family & Medical Leave Act; and the prevailing wage requirements of the Davis-Bacon Act. Jordan has been a wage-hour investigator for 30 years, and has a bachelor's degree in accounting.

JSEC, with 40 local committees statewide, works closely with the CDO Workforce New York to provide information on business related topics, and to improve services to employers. Employers participate in workshops and seminars concerning human resource topics, development of supervisory skills and labor law issues. The Steering Committee meets monthly and is involved with the design and planning of educational events.
