January 31, 2009 04:00 am

The Adirondack Mountain Club, Susquehanna Chapter, announces its schedule for February. Visit the website www.susqadk.org for more information.

Tuesday outings are rated C or C+. For Tuesday hikes meeting time and place, call leader or Bev Hensle at 286-9126. For weekend hikes, call Ernie Mahlke at 432-2583. Participants should call leaders for details before attending any outing.

Participants must have a level of fitness appropriate for the type of activity and must bring proper clothing and gear, including enough water to stay hydrated.

Carpool participants will be asked to contribute toward gas costs. Outing leaders' names and phone numbers are included with listing details below.

Meetings are open to the public.

Classifications are subjective and chosen by the leader.

A: Strenuous, long distances over rugged terrain with lots of climbing.

B: Moderate, shorter distances with less climbing. Moderate hikes may have some steep climbing and/or rugged terrain, but are less demanding than strenuous hikes.

C: Easy, short distance over rolling or flat terrain at a leisurely pace. Suitable for beginners.

The February schedule is as follows:

Tuesday: Linda Pearce, 432-8969, will lead an outing at Goodyear Lake.

Feb. 10: Rita Salo, 42-3656, will lead a ski or hike outing at Hicks State Forest in Roseboom.

Feb. 17: Barb Means, 432-4903, will lead an outing to be announced.

Feb. 18: The club will have its monthly meeting at the Elm Park United Methodist Church at 401 Chestnut St. in Oneonta. A potluck dinner will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a program at 7.

Aleda Koehn and Norma Lee Havens will present their ADK Extended Outings adventure hiking Italy's Cinque Terre, a rocky rugged land on the Ligurian Sea between Genova and Pisa on Italy's western coast. Trails and railroad lines connect the five coastal villages, or "cinque terre," which had been isolated from each other.

Feb. 24: Bev Hensle, 286-9126, will lead a nature walk at Hawk Circle in Cherry Valley.
