June 9, 1984

Forty members and guests attended the annual installation dinner of St. Joseph's Altar-Rosary Society, Worcester-Schenevus, held May 25 at the Tryon Inn, Cherry Valley. The guest speaker was Rev. Owen F. Shanley, pastor of St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, who spoke on the "Right to Live." New officers for the coming year are Marie Fedor, Worcester, president; Elsie Conte, Worcester, vice president; Eleanor Mravlja, Westford, treasurer; and Shirley Schoeberl, Schenevus, recording-secretary.

50 years ago

June 9, 1959

Alford Wood, exalted ruler of the Oneonta Elks Lodge, urged all of Oneonta to join with the club in Flag Day observances on June 14.

Keynoting this year's observance of Flag Day by the Elks is "a farewell salute to the 48 star-flag." The present flag has flown since 1912 without change but now a star will be added because Alaska has become a state.

Chairman of the Flag Day committee is Robert J. Harris aided by Wilson Breslin, L.L. Schomo, Lee J. Bryant, Kenneth Lockridge and John Jordan.
