@ Your Library 2009

(youth programs)

The library's independent reading program will be ongoing throughout the summer. Youths will receive one free book for each 300 minutes of reading. Reading will be recorded on reading logs provided by the library, and turned in weekly.

The library will host Creative Dramatics, for children ages 9 to 13, from 10 a.m. to noon July 6-10. Students will learn about improvisation, acting techniques, voice articulation, poise, body movement and character development. Space is limited, and advance registration is requested.

Colorama, for children ages 7 and older, will be offered from 9 to 10 a.m. July 13-16. Children will learn about the meaning of colors, create color designs, play games involving colors and create multicolored artwork.

Krafty Kids will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays for school-age children. Participants will read a short story and make a craft to fit the theme. Registration is requested.

Basket-weaving will be taught by Martha Bremer at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 15. Students ages 10 and older will leave with a melon basket. Registration is required by July 10.

Monday Movies will be shown at 1 p.m. Mondays, July 6-Aug. 10. The library will have a full list of the family-friendly, musical titles, which will include "Happy Feet," "Mary Poppins" and "Aladdin."

Children can submit guesses throughout the summer for the library's Guessing Jar. The child who comes closest to guessing the number of items in the jar will win the jar and its contents.
