Fair-on-the-Square will begin Friday at Courthouse Square in Delhi. The fair will run from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Fridays through July 24, rain or shine. This annual event features fundraisers, live music, entertainment, games, crafts and more. Some benches, tables and chairs will be provided; those who attend may bring lawn chairs.
Volunteers from the Delhi Kiwanis Club, the Delhi Rotary Club, the Delhi Business and Professional Women's Organization, the Delhi Women's Club, the Delhi Fire Department and the Delaware County Times have organized the event this year under the leadership of the Delhi Kiwanis Club and Delhi Fire Department member Scott May.
Committee members include Bill Campbell, Sushil Kakar, and Tom Mills from the Delhi Kiwanis Club; Ria Aron and Greg Krzyston from the Delhi Rotary Club; Ron Pernice from the Delhi BPW; Sheila Ayres, Julie Mable, Corie Nealis, Maggie Reinmann and Doris Tyrell from the Delhi Women's Club; Wylla Rabeler from the Delhi Fire Department; and Cyndee Pattison from the Delaware County Times.
This year Fair-on-the-Square will feature a variety of T-shirts and sweatshirts for $12 and $18 respectively. Proceeds from the sale of shirts will be donated to Fair-on-the-Square.
The Delhi Rotary Club will provide games for children. Every child who brings a canned food item will get one free game each night. No food in glass containers will be accepted. All food will be donated to the food bank run by Delaware Opportunities.
Every Friday night, the Delhi Fire Department will provide educational fire safety demonstrations using generated smoke on Court Street. The Firefighters' Parade at 7:30 p.m. July 17 will begin at the State University College of Technology at Delhi and continue uptown until it reaches Courthouse Square.
The Delhi Kiwanis Club will sell hot dogs, hamburgers, homestyle French fries and soft drinks. The Delhi Women's Club will sell potato, pasta and fruit salad and calico beans. The Delhi Fire Department will sell sausage with peppers and onions and soft drinks. The Delhi Emergency Medical Squad will sell healthy snacks.
Fair-on-the-Square is funded by the sale of T-shirts and sweatshirts, vendor fees, a barbecued chicken sale on Sept. 11 and community donations. A grant from the A. Lindsay and Olive B. O'Connor Foundation has also been awarded to help defray expenses. This year, sponsors are being sought for each night. O'Connor Hospital will be sponsor the fair on July 17.
On July 3, the Delaware County Community Band will perform from 6 to 7 p.m., For the Love of Music will perform from 7 to 9:30 p.m., and the Ross Park Mobile Zoo will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. On July 10, the Delaware County Community Band will perform from 6 to 7 p.m., and Blues Maneuver band will perform from 7 to 9:30 p.m.
On July 17, the Delaware County Community Band will perform from 6 to 7 p.m., Country Express will perform from 7 to 9:30 p.m., and the Firefighters' Parade will begin at 7:30 p.m.
On July 24, the Delaware County Community Band will perform from 6 to 7 p.m., and Off the Record will perform from 7 to 9:30 p.m. On July 31, the Delaware County Community Band will perform from 6 to 7 p.m., FROG (formerly Cheers) will perform from 7 to 9:30 p.m., and the Ross Park Mobile Zoo will be present from 5 to 8 p.m.
