Jacqueline Barry of Oneonta was crowned Miss Teenage New York Saturday in Norwich.

The 17-year-old Oneonta High School senior said as with most girls, when she was young she thought of entering beauty contests, but as she grew older "never really thought about it."

She entered and won the Miss Otsego County pageant in July, but only, she said, after urging from her friends.

Miss Barry is the daughter of Douglas and Valerie Barry of 514 Main St.

Along with winning a $1,000 Savings Bond, she will receive an all expense paid trip to the national competition in Miami Beach, Fla. Oct. 27.

Meg Lando, 18, Miss Chemung-Steuben Counties, was first runner-up; Laurie Caldwell, 16, Miss Schuyler County, second runner-up; followed by Jean Janowski, 18, Miss Niagara County; and Stephanie Pierce, 15, Miss Oswego County. Kim Kolba of Johnson City received the Miss Photogenic award.

COOPERSTOWN _ Two Otsego County 4-H Dairy Club members are among six such youths selected in New York State to receive purebred calves under a program sponsored by the Purebred Dairy Cattle Association in New York state.

The two are Lynn Green Jr. of Cooperstown, and Grant Moxley Jr. of Laurens. Both were chosen on a basis of their interest in dairy work and their inherent possibilities as future top breeders.

Lynn and Grant are the second and third boys from Otsego County to be so honored by the purebred group. Two years ago an Otego youth was similarly honored.

Lynn Green Jr. is a member of the Christian Hill Trailblazers, he is 13 years old, and this is his fifth year in 4-H Club work. He will receive a Brown Swiss heifer calf, aged about 40 days.

Grant Moxley Jr. is a member of the Valley View Boys of Laurens and is 12 years old. This is his second year in 4-H Club work.

Grant is to receive a Milking Shorthorn heifer calf of comparable age.
