Otego Historical society to meet
The Otego Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Harris House. The guest speaker will be author David Butler, and he will speak on his book "Railroaded in Cooperstown." Refreshments will be served, and the event is open to the public.
Oxford club to unveil rifle range Saturday
The Oxford Rod & Gun Club will unveil its new rifle range at its fourth annual sportsmen's weekend Saturday and Sunday at the club grounds on Ingraham Road in Oxford.
Under construction since April, the new range features a 50-yard pistol/ smallbore range, a 100-yard rifle range and a motorized running deer target, which will be used at special events.
The sportsmen's weekend event will run Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
An all-you-can-eat breakfast will be served starting at 7:30 a.m. both days, and lunch will be available. Both days will feature vendors, displays, door prizes, raffles and shooting events.
William "Coot" Connelly will be at a knife sharpening booth with a portion of his knife collection. Those interested can bring their knives for Connelly to sharpen. Admission is free.

Contra dance set
A contra dance at the Breakabeen Grange will be held from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, with music by Tom White and Friends. Rick Hill will be the caller for the dance, which is open to the public. There is a suggested donation of $6. Those interested can reach the Breakabeen Grange by taking state Route 30 from Middleburgh 6 miles and turning left into the village of Breakabeen. Garlic festival set
The ninth annual Susquehanna Valley Garlic Festival will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Wood Bull Antiques, on state Route 28 in Milford.
The festival is organized by local growers, and features a variety of garlic, garlic products and other garlic-related crops produced in the Leatherstocking region.
The main tent will host lectures about growing and cooking with garlic with demonstrations of braiding. All- day entertainment will include local musicians Banshie, Crie de Bayou and the Gypsy Pioneers, as well as Irish step dancers and children's activities.
The audience will be able to judge a cooking contest at 1 p.m.
The Garlic Festival has been organized by the Susquehanna Valley Garlic Growers Association, with support from the Upper Catskill Community Center for the Arts, Otsego County Tourism and friends of the festival. For more information, visit svgarlicfestival.com or call 638-9016.

Today the Otsego County Lutheran Parish men will meet for dinner at O'Hanlan's Steak House at 6:30 p.m. in the Commons Mall, on state Route 28 in Hartwick Seminary. The group will discuss plans for next year and ideas for the coming months.

The Milford American Legion Auxiliary is seeking vendors and crafters to participate in its annual holiday bazaar, which will be on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Legion in Milford. Tables are available for $10 to those who wish to display and sell their items. The bazaar is the group's only fundraising event.

The Leatherstocking Corvette Club will present the Harvest Fun Run on Saturday in Cooperstown at the Fenimore Art Museum's parking lot, north of the museum on state Route 80.
Car judging will begin at 10 a.m, and an awards ceremony will take place at 4:30 p.m.
The club will donate a portion of the participants' registration fees to the Cooperstown Food Bank.
The Fenimore Art Museum and The Farmers' Museum, both within walking distance of the event, will donate $1 for each ticket sold by the club that day. Cash donations for the food bank will also be accepted. For more information, contact Jerry Howard at 847-8832.
