September 22, 2008 01:45 pm Step Back in Time features community news from The Daily Star 25 and/or 50 years ago. 25 years ago Sept. 22, 1983 Sunny and 70-degree weather greeted the field of runners and spectators Sunday at the second annual Oneonta Magic Mile on Oneonta's Main, Division and Grand streets. Sixteen-year-old Tim Platt of Otego had the best finishing time with a 4:36, and claimed the men's open title. Laurens' Gary Toombs finished second (4:42) and Charles Parmalee of Morris was third (4:42). Jackie Platt was the winner of the women's open division, another young runner at age 17. She clocked a 6:10 to beat out second place finisher Julie Lambiaso at 6:44. Paula Ward claimed third-place woman overall with a time of 6:57. 50 years ago Sept. 22, 1958 GRAND GORGE _ Earl B. Dudley Unit, American Legion Auxiliary, held its first meeting of the fall and held the annual election of officers. Elected were: president, Mrs. Arthur Rikard; first vice president, Mrs. Leslie Haynes; second vice president, Mrs. Clarence Rickard; secretary, Mrs. Charles Seebeck; treasurer, Mrs. Carl Brenn; chaplain, Mrs. Harvey Marshall; sergeant-at-arms, Mrs. Earl Yanson; finance committee for three years, Mrs. Nelson LaTourette; executive committee, Mrs. Leslie Kellherhouse, Mrs. Paul Becker and Mrs. Kenneth Bender; historian, Mrs. Clifton Hoagland; and county comittee, Mrs. Arthur Rikard, Mrs. Ralph Yanson and Mrs. Leslie Haynes.
