A mock dorm room fire will highlight demonstrations by fire safety and emergency personnel from local departments at a SUNY Cobleskill Residential Life Office-sponsored fire safety day from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
It will take place in the common area between Porter, Parsons, Davis, Ten Eyck and Fake residence halls at the State University College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill.
The event will provide students with opportunities to learn proper fire extinguisher use, tour a fire truck, walk through a smoky trailer and experience sprinkler demonstrations, presenters said.
The safety day will conclude with the mock dorm room burn on the athletic field behind Fake Hall, when students will be able to see how quickly an area like a dorm room can become fully engulfed.
The college is partnering with the New York State Fire Protection Council, Cobleskill Police Department, Rural Metro, the college's Student Medical Response Team and University Police Department.

Westford Methodist Church will be have its fall roast pork dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
The menu will include pork, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, squash, rolls and dark bread, pickled beets and apple and pumpkin pies.
Cost is by donation. Takeouts will be available.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's Rogers Environmental Education Center in Sherburne will have an Animals of Halloween program at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Participants can learn about the plants and animals found in New York state by taking a guided walk to "meet" them along the trail.
Groups of people will rotate to stations along a special trail and can interact with costumed creatures to find out more about their specific characteristics and roles in nature.
This year's program features the luna moth, the flying squirrel and the crow. A fourth station will feature compact fluorescent light bulb. A fifth will feature a Halloween-inspired campfire story. Cider and doughnuts will be provided.
Presenters said the program is not intended to be scary.

The not-for-profit Friends of Rogers Inc. helps support the center's programs and special events. Rogers Center is located one mile west of Sherburne on Route 80.

The annual meeting of the Schoharie-Leatherstocking Chapter Sons of the American Revolution will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Lasell Hall, 268 Main St. in Schoharie.
Guest speaker will be Jeff O'Connor. The public is invited. Light refreshments will be served.

The United Chruch of Oxford will hold two events this weekdend.
A harvest dinner will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the church Fellowship hall of the Fort Hill building across from the library.
The menu will include roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, squash, carrots, boiled onions, cabbage salad, rolls and corn bread, homemade pies and desserts.
Cost is $7.50 for adults, $5 for children age 5 to 12. Children younger than 5 may eat for free.
There will a concert of Southern gospel and country music featuring The Benjamins in the church's sanctuary at 2 p.m. Sunday.
The trio, Judy and daughters Karen and Tracy, have been performing for a number of years in gospel concerts and churches throughout New York state. Free will offerings will be accepted

{"headlinelight18"/}Club plans benefit dinner
The South Valley Women's Club will host a benefit dinner for the family of 6-year-old Grace Utter from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday.
Organizers said the club usually presents a dinner each October to benefit a family in the community.
This year, members selected the family of Grace Utter. Grace has focal segmental glomular stenosis, a kidney disease. She underwent a transplant in August, but the new kidney succumbed to FSGS and had to be removed.
The club was established in 1972. The club women meet every month and hold donation dinners on the third Saturday of every month from May to October.
Money from the dinners goes toward the upkeep of the club building and community programs, including Halloween and Christmas parties for children.
{"headlinelight18"/}Halloween party planned
The Coventry Events Committee will have its second annual Halloween Party from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday.
The party will be held at the Coventry Firehouse, just off the corner of state Highway 206 on North Road.
All are encouraged to come dressed in costume. Some of the activities planned are costume contests, pumpkin painting, Halloween games, a haunted house, music and more.
Organizers said the doughnut game that was so much fun last year will return this year. There will also be a guest appearance from Chester Cheetah and Patched the Clown.

The Women's Garden Discussion Group, an affiliate of The Women's Club of Cooperstown, will meet at Christ Church in Cooperstown at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
This is a change of venue from the firehouse in Cooperstown.
The entrance to Christ Church is on Fair Street. Janet Vingard will do a slide presentation with commentary on Martagon Lilies.
Refreshments will follow the presentation.
