The winners of the first Catskill Area Study Council Speech and Debate Competition held at the State University College at Oneonta Oct. 17 have been announced.
Nine area schools and more than 110 students participated.
These students will compete on various Saturdays up until the district competition in March, which will be held in Vermont. March winners will qualify for the national competition to be held in June. Last year Thalia Frasco and Umberto Angilletta from Unatego competed at the national level in Birmingham, Ala.
Overall Team winners (Sweepstakes): first, Unatego High School; second, Oneonta High School; third, Walton Central School.
JV Prose: first, Mollie Ticknor from Delhi; second, Katherine Kenney from Worcester; third, Stephanie Hallahon from Worcester.
First JV Impromptu: first, Alyssa Christman from Worcester; second, Holly White from Laurens; third, Austin Partridge from Milford.
Declamation: first, Brian Jeffers from Edmeston; second, Caleb Novko from Laurens; third, Jordan Kane from Laurens.
Oral Interpretation: first, Gwen Bennis from Edmeston; second, Quinn Kelley from Delhi; third, April Bailey from Oneonta.
Duo: first, Francis Grunfeld and Kyle Norton from Worcester; second, Gwen Bennis and Lindsay Holdork from Edmeston; third, Skye Houck and Heather White from Laurens.
Varsity Impromptu: first, Molly Ahearn from Unatego; second, Katelyn Walley from Walton; third, Brenden Gregory from Walton.
Dramatic Interpretation: first, Shane Heidecker from Oneonta; second, Lena Hunt from Oneonta; third, Becka Wagner from Oneonta.
Humorous Interpretation: first, Elizabeth Bakhuzen from Laurens; second, Cody Norton from Worcester; third, Zach Williams from Unatego.
