The Seeley's Ceramic Pro-Am Tennis Tournament will start tonight at 7 p.m. at the Oneonta Tennis Club.
Tonight's event will be the Pro-Am Mixed Doubles. Competing will be Carol Frost, Louise Gara, Sandy Swift, Gwen Milener, Letty Shaw, April Gates, Pat Elliott and Jane Hymers.
The pros will be coming from all over New York state. Last year's champion Roger London will be back to defend his singles title. London is ranked ninth in the Eastern Tennis Association. Last year's runner-up Mike Stark is also coming back to compete.
Local players Scott Milener of Oneonta and Paul van der Sommen, the tennis pro at the Oneonta Tennis Club, will also be competing.
Tonight's format will be: each pro and lady qualifier will play four sets tonight. Each pro will play with a different female partner each set. No player will play more than once against or with the same player. The player with the highest game differential will win the doubles tournament.

COOPERSTOWN _ A new construction firm has been organized in Cooperstown, according to Edwin P. Phillips of Cooperstown, who says the new business is called the Ed Phillips Construction Company.
Underway since early this month, the new business has a labor complement of some six men, divided among painters, carpenters and masons. The firm occupies the Main Street office formerly occupied by the Bowers Development Company.
Mr. Phillips, who conducted a similar business at Atlantic Highlands, N.J., for 13 years before coming to Cooperstown, says his men will specialize in kitchen and bathroom modernization, along with ceramic and plastic tile work.
