City Engineer Lawrence Baldwin revealed Monday that plans for reconstruction of a portion of West Street have been completed and will be turned over to the Public Service Board for its review.

Mr. Baldwin estimates that the job will cost $139,615.

The reconstruction includes that portion of West Street from the corner of Chestnut Street to 60 feet past Clinton Street, he said.

The engineer said the total project also includes widening the approach to Hartwick College Drive and rebuilding a 200-foot section of it. The project also calls for the location of storm sewers. Mr. Baldwin added that some new sidewalks will also be laid as part of the program.

Once the Service Board reviews the plans, they will be taken to the Federal Housing and Home Finance Agency in New York City for the Community Facilities Administration’s approval.

Federal approval is needed because the project will be financed both by the U.S. government and the city. Each will pay half.

West Street, a heavily trafficked thoroughfare, is one of the major approaches to the SUCO and Hartwick College and Homer Folks Hospital.
