SPRING READING

“Frozen in Time” by Mitchell Zuckoff is a true story that traces the search for military men who were lost after plane crashes in Greenland during World War II. The first crash occurred on Nov. 5, 1942, when a cargo plane went down. A search-and-rescue plane sent out four days later also crashed during a severe snow storm, with the nine on board surviving. Then another rescue was attempted, but that amphibious plane flew into a storm and vanished. The author’s account of these nine men, the others who tried to save them, and the expedition of 2012 to uncover all the mystery is fascinating reading.

Jesse and Ramon have tried unsuccessfully to have a child in “The Mothers,” a novel by Jennifer Gilmore. When they decided to become parents by adopting a child, they are unprepared for the complexities of the process. They are overwhelmed by paperwork, training sessions, unsolicited advice from strangers, and more. They are even contacted by women who select them and then change their minds, as well as by women who choose them and aren’t even pregnant. An emotionally packed book that you won’t soon forget.
