WALTON — High School Vice Principal James Hoover at Walton Central will fill the seat of principal this summer as Wendell Spear retires after 29 years at the school. Hoover was named principal at a recent Board of Education meeting, about 1½ months after Spear announced his plans to retire next October. The school is now seeking a new vice principal.
A native of Vestal, Hoover joined the Walton Central staff in 1976 as a health and physical education teacher. Four years ago, he moved into administration, an area he said he knew a lot about since his father was involved in school administration in Vestal.
Hoover’s wife, Cathi, is a native of Greene and teaches seventh grade at the school. They have an eight-year-old son and a five-year-old daughter.
