COBLESKILL — The Cobleskill and Richmondville school boards have scheduled a joint meeting on Wednesday, March 1 to hear presentations on the rules and procedures relating to school district merger.

The meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. at Curtis Mott Hall on the Cobleskill Tech campus.

Spokesmen for both school districts have said the meeting is mainly for information purposes and does not mean the districts will become involved in a merger study.

“There’s no commitment on anyone’s side,” said Samuel Shevat, school superintendent for the Cobleskill district. “It’s just data gathering, information gathering, whatever you want to call it.”

The Oneonta Chapter of Railroad Enthusiasts Inc. with Alex W. Ludwig of 6 North Street as temporary chairman, was born Saturday night as about 15 railroad “buffs” from Oneonta and the area gathered at City Hall.

The new chapter plans, as one of its first pieces of business, to undertake a study and initiate action in an effort to encourage the establishment in Oneonta of a railroad museum.

On hand Saturday night in City Hall to help establish and encourage the new chapter were two representatives of the New York City Chapter. Warren Smith, chairman of the city chapter, and John Nelson, a city chapter member, spent the weekend in Oneonta with attendance at Saturday’s meeting the feature of their visit.

Principal immediate concern of the newly formed Oneonta chapter will be to establish communications with Dr. Stanley Groman, M.D., of Syracuse who operates a sizable rail museum known as “Rail City” at Sandy Creek in Oswego County.

Dr. Groman earlier evinced interest in establishing his museum in Oneonta and members of the new chapter plan a visit to Sandy Creek in the near future to see just what Dr. Groman has in the line of rolling stock.
