The cost of attending Hartwick College has been increased to $15,000, a $1,250 or 9 percent increase from the $13,750 it cost to attend the school this year.

Tuition for 1989-90 will be $11,100, a $1,000 or 9.9 percent increase over this year’s bill of $10,100.

Room fees will be $1,775, a $125 or 7.6 percent increase from $1,650, and board will cost $2,025, a $125 or 6.6 percent rise from $1,900 in 1988-89. The student activity fee will remain at $100.

The Hartwick board of trustees approved the increases, which are 9.1 percent overall, as well as the college’s budget for next year, during a meeting Feb. 17. The increases weren’t made public until college President Philip S. Wilder Jr. had notified parents of continuing students about the changes.

While attendance costs will rise, Hartwick’s financial aid budget also is slated to increase 10.9 percent to $4.3 million.

At Hartwick College, the board approved a $26.5 million budget for 1989-90, which represents an 8.1 percent increase over estimated expenditures for this year.

“Our trustees made as many reductions in proposed expenditures as could be imposed without curtailing institutional effectiveness,” said President Wilder.

COOPERSTOWN — The Cooperstown Art Association has signed a seven year lease with the Village of Cooperstown for use of rooms in the Library Building.

The lease includes rooms in the rear of the first floor, which have been used by the association for studio and exhibit purposes for some years. The lease includes the ballroom on the second floor.

To comply with state requirements, an outside fire escape is being constructed from the ballroom. The association is planning to redecorate the ballroom including a refinishing job on the floor.

When all improvements are completed, the second floor facilities will be made available by the Art Association for public meetings, parties and organization meetings, on a rental basis, a spokesman for the association said.
