Love your library by showing support

February is Library Lover’s Month, and it’s a great time to tell your legislators that you support libraries.

Why do you love your library? It’s a place that offers a world of knowledge at your fingertips. It’s a place where you can be surrounded by books, digital information and other like-minded people.

Libraries are a treasure trove of inspiration and possibility. Let your elected officials know that you rely on library funding for services such as interlibrary loan deliveries, the online catalog and more. Governor Cuomo proposed a reduction in library funding compared to last year’s budget. Please visit our website,, and click on the Become a Library Advocate button.

Other ways to love your library include contributing tax-deductible funds (especially for the computers we need so desperately), joining the Friends of the Library group, volunteering and helping to promote your library by talking about the many ways we serve our community.

While on the topic of love, stop by the library to see the Wedding Display. At our circulation clerk, Kate has posted fascinating information about weddings in many different cultures. Plus there are wedding planning books available in a wide range of topics from choosing apparel to selecting vows.

One thing that I love about my library is listening to audiobooks. I go to the library to borrow books on CD and to download books from the Download Zone. This month I was thrilled to discover that one of my favorite book series is also a brilliant audiobook. I’m a fan of Alan Bradley’s cozy British mystery series that starts with “Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie.” The protagonist is an 11-year-old chemistry wiz who lives in a crumbling post-war mansion called Buckshaw. The outrageous family dynamics will keep you entertained as Flavia de Luce solves classic mysteries. The audiobooks are read by Jayne Entwistle who does a wonderful job of capturing the spirit of Flavia. I highly recommend the series to help you through the long, cold winter.
