SIDNEY — The Hospital in Sidney is planning a $9 million refurbishing, which includes the addition of a 10-bed skilled nursing facility and renovations of the radiology, outpatient emergency and intensive care units.

Representatives of the hospital will meet with the Health Systems Agency of Northeastern New York next Tuesday to present their plans. According to Michele McClave, senior planner for HSA, the Appalachian-Mohawk Sub-area Advisory Council of HSA may rule on the hospital’s plans Tuesday, and if approved they would then go on to the HSA’s regional office.

The hospital, which now has 30 skilled nursing facility beds and 42 medical/surgical beds including five in ICU, is requesting an estimated $8,941,300 in improvements. According to Administrator Leo Friel, expansion will feature a new skilled nursing facility with beds to be housed in a two-story addition to the existing hospital building on West Pearl Street.

Tired but triumphant, Oneonta Lions tallied up the weekend Sportsmen’s Show as an unqualified success yesterday, noting that attendance at the two-day show in the Armory was “over 4,000 persons.”

This attendance figure, Lions officials said, was chalked up even though “extremely hazardous” road conditions on Friday night cut into attendance.

Club members — and exhibitors — were complimentary of the efforts put forth by the show’s chairman, Lyall Fletcher, and co-chairman, James Catella, in making the event what at least one exhibitor called “the best show ever put on…”

Lions also asked that special thanks be made public to the entire community for their cooperation towards the sight conservation projects which are a major part of Lion’s Club undertakings.
