Margaretville library plans events

Fairview Public Library at 43 Walnut St. in Margaretville has set its schedule for July.

The school age summer reading program will start at 3 p.m. Wednesday, with a celebration of Independence Day with flag making and summertime games. The program on July 10 will be “Explorers,” using maps to find lost treasure at the library. There will also be bird watching and recording in field journals, and natural materials weaving. The theme for July 24 will be “Rocks,” where participants will be able to make their own rock candy, look at different kinds of rocks. create a display for rock collecting and open treasure rocks.

On Tuesday, July 9, there will be a discussion of the book “Swan Thieves” by Elizabeth Kostova, at 5 p.m.

Sit and Knit for fiber enthusiasts will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesdays, July 10 and 24. 

On Thursday, July 11, the pre-school summer reading program will meet at 11 a.m. The theme will be pirates and include treasure maps and crafts. On July 25 the program will be “Construction Crew” with participants learning about construction machines and sites. The final program of the month on July 31 will be “Underwater” where participants will paint with watercolors and have a water balloon toss.

The trustees will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 11.

On Friday, July 12, the library will host a Teen Program, “Steampunk Night,” starting at 5 p.m. featuring metal and glass etching. On June 26, the teen program ill be Xbox with Kinect.

Story Laurie Macintosh will appear at the library at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, for storytelling and music.

The monthly Friday Night Flicks and Pizza will continue the tribute to the 2013 Oscar-nominated best pictures at 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 26.

Hours for Fairview Public Library are 11 a.m. to 5p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
