City Charter available at library

Huntington Memorial Library has copies of the final version of the City Charter, which is up for vote by city residents on Nov. 8. Frequently Asked Questions are also available. The charter hasn't been revised in decades and this is your chance to read a copy, and be informed so you can vote on Election Day. Don't miss your opportunity to make your voice heard by voting. Copies are on the display case as you enter the library.

You can also view the document online at http://www.oneonta.ny.us/pdf/charterfinalsept11.pdf.

Hydraulic Fracturing Draft

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has released a revised draft of the High-Volume Hydraulic Fracturing Impact Statement and it is available at the library for viewing. This document helps you understand the issues on horizontal drilling and high-volume fracturing that we are hearing and reading about daily. This report is also available online at http://www.dec.ny.gov/energy/75370.html. The website also has fact sheets on the topic and you can learn how to submit comments and questions to the DEC. There are so many opinions being expressed, this document allows you to know exactly what is being proposed.

Downloadable Books

Do you have a new eBook device or want to try downloadable audiobooks and don't know how? Librarian Sarah Livingston is offering classes to help you learn about the library's Download Zone. You'll need to bring your laptop that can connect to a wireless Internet connection since this will be a hands-on workshop. Registration is required and you can do so in person or by calling us at 432-1980. Class times are as follows: 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29; 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5; and 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15.
