Digital book training to be offered

---- — Librarian Sarah Livingston will offer free classes for ebooks. If you have a device and want to learn how to use it, sign up for one of our classes. You’ll also learn about the Download Zone, which offers free ebooks through the library with your library card and you reader. Please sign up for one time slot. Classes are about 1 to 1½ hours long and registration is required.

For this hands-on workshop, participants should bring their laptop and be able to connect to a wireless Internet connection. The class will focus on laptop users, but anyone interested in learning may attend. Kindle class attendees do not need a laptop, but may bring their own if they prefer. Basic buttons and menus on your device will also be covered.

Clare Porterfield’s marriage is falling apart in “The Drowning House” by Elizabeth Black. So when she is invited to direct a photographic exhibition in her hometown of Galveston, Texas, she takes the offer. Once there, she is drawn into a 100-year-old mystery involving resident Stella Carraday. It seems she drowned in the family house during the great hurricane of 1900. But was it really a drowning or could it have been murder? Was the family involved? The closer she gets to the answers, the more disturbing the mystery gets. A great winter read for this first novel.

“Winter of Snow” is Jenny Milchman’s first novel and takes place in the Adirondack mountains. Nora Hamilton awakens one morning to discover that her husband has committed suicide, shattering her world. There is no note, nothing seemed to be wrong, and he was a stalwart police officer. She forces herself to dig into this mystery and finds road blocks no matter which way she turns. His fellow officers and mother won’t talk to her and the secrets they hold will take effort to uncover in this moving story.


Children’s author David Kirk’s latest book is “Ten Things I Love About You.” Rabbit and Pig are best friends. Rabbit decides to make a list of all the things he loves about his friend, and wants Pig to help him. But, Pig is busy and as the two talk back and forth, Rabbit tries his patience. They suddenly realize why they are such great pals, and children will, too.
