Books lists abound this time of year

The Daily Star

---- — ‘Tis the season for the Best Book Lists of 2013. There are Favorite Poetry Books, Best Business Books, Best Mysteries, Best Children’s Books, 100 Best Books to Give as Gifts, Best Audiobooks for Teens and Tweens and much more. If you’re interested in exploring the more than 75 lists, go to You’ll find lists generated by Publishers Weekly, Kirkus, Hispanic Business, Huffington Post, Christian Science Monitor, Omnivoracious and Indigo to name a few.

On the other hand, you could also stop by the Huntington Library to talk to other bibliophiles who frequent the stacks or our trusty circulation staff. Another great service the library offers is NoveList which is a database that can be found on the Research Center of our online catalog. NoveList offers its own list of Best Books but you can also find authors similar to your favorites, book discussion guides and feature articles along with other information about novels.

We want to hear from you! Through Dec. 23 the library will running an online survey to understand how patrons use the library’s technology so we can provide resources and services that are valuable to the community. The Huntington Memorial Library Technology Impact Survey is anonymous, available in English and Spanish, and takes 10 to 15 minutes to complete. The survey is confidential and does not collect any personally identifiable information.

Please support the library and help us improve our services. Please go to the library website and click on the survey button to fill out the survey or access it from one of the library’s public access computers. We have paper copies at the library if you prefer a print format.

“The Greeting Cards of Rockwell Kent” will be presented by Robert Rightmire at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Kent was once called America’s most popular artist. Since that time in the 1930s, his place in 20th-century American art has evolved from being forgotten to being rediscovered. He was known as a painter, illustrator, print maker, wood engraver, author, architect and social and political activist. All of these mediums of expression are seen in the greeting cards he created from 1910 to the 1960s. This talk will offer an introduction to Kent’s art.

Health Insurance Marketplace Navigator assistance is available. A local Navigator who will help you through the online process of signing up for health insurance will be at the library on Mondays and Thursdays this month December. Call (800) 231-0744 to make an appointment. Oneonta is also home to two Navigators. If you would like individual in his or her office, please call 432-4500, ext. 205. Appointments take about 1½ hours and a Navigator will help you through the process but will not make decisions for you.

Story times are ongoing. Please stop by or call the library to register for one of our sessions for Tiny Tots, Lapsit, Toddlers & Parents or After-school programs.
