Margaretville library plans August events

The Fairview Public Library at 43 Walnut St. in Margaretville will host a series of events this month.

The preschool summer reading program will continue at 11 a.m. Thursdays. Today’s topic will be “Under the sea,” exploring what animals live in the water, and participants will be an aquarium diorama. Children are encouraged to bring extra clothes as they may get wet. Caves will be the topic Aug. 8, where participants will create a cave home and learn about animals that live in caves. The topic will be Egyptians on Aug. 15, and a dinosaur dig will take place Aug. 22. The final program of the month on Aug. 29, will be gnomes and fairies.

Anime illustrations by Cara Suess will open Saturday at noon and be on display through Sept. 3.

The school-age summer program will continue at 3 p.m. Wednesdays, with the next program being on caves, where children will learn about the cave painting of Lascaux, France, and will create their own cave paintings. The Aug. 14 program will be “Archaeology” with Egyptian hieroglyphs and self-portraits. Dinosaurs will be the topic Aug. 21 with a dinosaur dig, and the month will close Aug. 28 with gnomes and fairies.

There will be a trustees meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8.

“Inception” will be shown at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, for the Teen Movie Night with Pizza.

Sit and Knit will continue at 5 p.m. Aug. 14 and 28.

There will be a children’s archaeology program at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 16 with Lynda Carroll, an archaeologist from Binghamton University. She will speak on the Mt. Laurel Gardens Site, an archaeological dig in Arkville. A program for adults will take place at 5:30 p.m.

There will be a book discussion on “This is How You Lose Her,” by Junot Diaz at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 19. 

On Aug. 23, the library will host a Duct Tape Extravaganza for teens at 5 p.m. Participants will be able to make a duct tape wallet, flower pen and book bag.

Two programs on Aug. 30 require registration. A “Wrap up to Summer Reading” will take place at 5 p.m., and the Friday Night Flicks and Pizza will be at 5:30 p.m. with “Zero Dark Thirty.”
