Sign up now for library's summer reading programs

Registration begins today for the library’s Summer Reading Program. All programs for children and adults will run from July 7 to Aug. 16 with the exception of the Adult Camp NaNoWriMo program.

An informational meeting about this online writing program will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at the library so participants can be ready to write on July 1. You’ll learn about the online Camp NaNoWriMo program and how the weekly meetings will assist your writing process with prompts and tips. It may be just what you need to motivate you to write.

Thanks to the generous donations from Main Street businesses, there will be loads of great prizes for our Adult Summer Reading Program. The following businesses gladly support our summer of reading: Razzle Dazzle, Latte Lounge, Fiesta, Collage Food Boutique, Ruffino’s Pizza, The Green Toad, Theesa’s Emporium, Tino’s Pizza, Monkey Barrel Toys, Boudreaux ‘N Thibodeaux’s, The Eighth Note Music Store, Autumn Café, The Red Caboose, and Artware. The Edward Teleky Jewelry store also donated a prize to be used for the children’s programs. Participate in the Adult Summer Reading program and you may be the recipient of a gift or gift certificate from one of these great downtown businesses.

Just in time for the Summer Reading Program, we’ve completed the Children’s Area makeover. New carpet, curtains and pillows have created a cozy space for families to relax and read or to enjoy story times.

This week some familiar authors have books that are new to the bestseller list. This list has something for everyone. You’ll find fantasy, espionage, historical fiction, romance and a detective novel by a well-known author of horror books. So dig into Stephen King’s “Mr. Mercedes,” Mary Kay Andrew’s “Save the Date,” Laurell K. Hamilton’s “A Shiver of Light,” Jeff Shaara’s “The Smoke at Dawn,” Lisa See’s “China Dolls,” Dorothea Benton Frank’s “The Hurricane Sisters” and Alan Furst’s “Midnight in Europe.” They’ve all hit the top of the charts this week.
