“The Committee Opposed to the Sale of Alcoholic Beverages” in the towns of Oneonta and Otego came into official being Tuesday night at a meeting in Elm Park church.

There, for the first time, it was noted that the two groups, both faced with local-option “wet-dry” legislation this Nov. 6, have pooled their resources to take more effective action towards voter understanding of the consequences of “wet” action by voters.

Twenty-one individuals, representing every section of the Town of Oneonta including seven churches within the township, plus two churches in Otego, were on hand for the meeting, headed by the Rev. Joseph Fiske, pastor of Elm Park Church.

Churches and clergymen cooperating are Elm Park Methodist, Mr. Fiske; Community Baptist Church, Rev. John “Jack” Clark; West Oneonta Baptist Church, Rev. Homer Wetherbee; Assembly of God Church, Rev. Richard Banach; Plains Methodist Church, Rev. Daniel Herron; Emmons Methodist Church, Rev. Duane Buddle; the Otego Methodist Church, Rev. Lavere Dodson, and the Otego Baptist Church, Rev. John Truax.
