Library helping state reach land-line users

The state Public Service Commission has sent out notices to municipalities, libraries and other community groups of its recent directive to Verizon regarding land line phone service. Many areas of the state do not have cell phone service; land lines are the only option for phones. Because of this, if you live in an area that has land line options only, and you are a core customer with special needs, repair of your phone line must be a priority.

Core customers include people 62 or older, blind, disabled, subscribers to Lifeline, and those with medical emergencies. Not all customers may be aware of this regulation. Verizon has notified some potential customers, but others may exist that are unknown to them. An application for this special protection through Verizon is available at Huntington Memorial Library and on our website at www.hmloneonta.org.
