The Huntington Memorial Library is in the midst of a $1,000 renovation project that should be finished by the end of the year.

Workers are now completing the front hallway and stairs, Marie Bruni, director, said. The paneling and plaster of the original walls, which are 107 years old, is being removed, and new sheet rock is being put in place.

The current renovations are in the main thoroughfare of the library, and have limited access to several rooms in the building. Two of the children’s rooms are closed, and library clerks are available to get any books from those rooms that are requested.

Work has already been done in two children’s rooms and the circulation room. Ms. Bruni said the reading room and adult fiction rooms also will be repaired.

The renovations are being done as part of the general maintenance of the building, and funds for the project are being taken out of the library’s regular budget, Ms. Bruni said. The new walls will restore the building to its original décor.
