More than 2,000 Boy Scouts, Cubs and Explorer Scouts will participate in the Otschodela Scout Council Camporee at the site of the newly planned Oneonta High School on upper East Street beginning Oct. 12.

Preparations are being now made for accommodating most of the scouting units in the Council which includes Otsego, Delaware and Schoharie counties.

Hazen Ross, scout executive, reported that to date 71 of the 72 Boy Scout troops, 51 of the 52 Cub Scout packs and most of the Explorer units in the council have made tent site reservations for the camporee near Wilber Park.

At 6:45 a.m., Saturday, the scouts will roll out of their sleeping bags. At 7, a flag raising ceremony will take place. Mass calisthenics led by Oneonta High School personnel will follow.

Displays will show scouting skills and other activities typical of scouting life, ranging from Indian lore, geology, map reading and edible wild plants to marksmanship, cooking, model campsites and pioneering.

When the Cub Scouts arrive Saturday afternoon, the boys will assemble by district on the upper level of Wilber park and at the camp site.

There they will join four bands, and the 2 p.m. parade will begin.

Ani P. Colone, camporee parade chairman estimated that it will take about two hours for the scouts to pass through the city and back to the park.

Saturday night, the Scouts will hold a council fire, featuring an Order of the Arrow ceremony and other scouting activities. Order of the Arrow is an honorary campers society.

After the campfire, the Cub Scouts will return home.
