City waters should conserve now that water levels at the city reservoirs are dropping an average of one inch a day, according to John Baranowski, water treatment plant chief operator.
Levels at the two reservoirs have dropped about 12 inches in the last week or two, Baranowski said.
“We definitely have to implement voluntary water restrictions,” he said.
Oneonta actually is in better shape than surrounding communities, Baranowski said. Storage supplies now total about 368 million gallons or 170 days. Maximum capacity is 470 gallons, Baranowski said.
The biggest problem is that current water supplies are not being replenished, he said.
“Thundershowers are not enough,” he said.
He said longer periods of rain that drop two to three inches are needed to bring water levels up.
