COOPERSTOWN — The Otsego County Dairy Promotion Committee is celebrating the emergence and growth of the dairy princess program over the past years. Their May pageant will include introduction of several past princesses.
The role of the young women who represent the dairy industry has changed in the past 25 years.
Linda Eichler Pochkar, now of Mt. Vision, crowned Dairy Queen at the 1962 Rural Appreciation Day in Oneonta, and Tina Pullis of Richfield Springs, crowned Otsego County Dairy Princess in May 1987, talked over the differences in their roles recently.
Mrs. Pochkar was queen in name only.
“There was nothing after that day,” she said. “There was the one event and it was over. No state contest, no appearances followed.”
Miss Pullis, the 1987 dairy princess, has logged more than 4,000 miles in presenting programs on behalf of the dairy industry. She is a junior at the Owen D. Young Central School in VanHornesville and the daughter of Allan and Pat Pullis.

Oneonta Rotary Club’s Fun Fair got off to a big start last night at the armory and a huge crowd was on hand for the goings on. Among them were Don Magnan of East Meredith who showed up with, and bought balloons for, David Plate, Michael Magnan, Deborah Plat and Mary Magnan.
Nothing would do for three-year-old Christine Bard but a ride on the Recreational Commission merry-go-round. Little Chris looked as if she was not sure whether it was fun or no.
